Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is a secluded location tucked away on the eastern coastline, making it an extraordinary location to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. About a 30-minute drive from beautiful, historic Savannah, Georgia, many vacation planners describe Hilton Head Island as one of the most family-friendly destinations in the world! For those that remember keeping the Feast at Jekyll Island years ago, Hilton Head Island has much of the same out-of-the-way appeal.
Often called the “low-country” by the locals, this quaint, boot-shaped island, only twelve miles long and five miles wide, was explored in 1663 by Captain William Hilton. He named the island “Hilton Head” after himself after identifying the headland adjoining the entrance to Port Royal Sound.
Area attractions provide a surplus of things to do and places to see, extending the Festival experience well beyond the 13 miles of world-famous beach! Hilton Head Island is rich in Southern American history, with many historical and cultural tours, and offers children's and art museums, wildlife sanctuaries, numerous parks, quaint shops, great restaurants, and some of the most beautiful beaches on the eastern seaboard. There are also more than 60 miles of family friendly bicycle trails that connect to the beach and elsewhere. Brethren can bring their own bike or rent one of the 15,000+ bikes available on the island. They can perfect their swing on 30 world-class golf courses or pack their racquet to play on more than 350 tennis courts. An aerial adventure on the ropes course or on the zip-line is another great activity. Water activities also abound, including kayaking excursions, fishing- and dolphin-cruises, sailing, surfing, waterskiing, and much, much more!
